German Holiday: Days 12-17 // Oktoberfest & Spain

Hello! Today I am sharing the last part of our vacation!

If you missed my other posts you can you catch up:

Day 12
OKTOBERFEST!

Oktoberfest is an event we have been looking forward to since we found out we would be moving to Germany. I had been looking at Dirndl's for months!

Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect at Oktoberfest. I knew there would be a lot of beer and a lot of people, and people in Dirndl's and Lederhosen. But my knowledge of what was in store for us ended there.

Many of the tables are reserved for the evening. People book them a year in advance and they pay big money for them. Our Air BnB host knew a guy, and we got a table reservation for the evening! It worked out so great - we couldn't have gotten anymore lucky.

First our outfits. We bought them  in Braunschweig to ensure they fit. Many Americans who travel to Munich for the event choose to wait until they get there and truthfully we could've done the same. I however enjoyed going into it knowing I had a Dirndl I liked and one that fit.

We arrived around 1pm and just explored! We also got a bite to eat for lunch before finding the beer.

It was huge. Like an amusement park huge. There were roller coasters, carnival rides, games, food stands, trinkets, etc. If you can imagine it, it was probably there! I was not expecting SO MUCH stuff, but there it was! Walking around outside of the tents, it didn't appear to be too busy. After all it was a Tuesday afternoon.

The main "street" is where all the big beer tents are. There were 14 tents to choose from. They range from fitting 1,500 - 10,000 people each! Each of them have a description depending on what you're looking for. Locals, younger crowd, Heaven - they have a large variety. Our reservation wasn't until 7pm in Schottenhamel which happens to be the biggest tent and the tent that Oktoberfest officially starts in. If you don't have a reservation you just have to walk around until you find a seat and then the waitress will come bring you a beer. I imagine on a Saturday night this is much more difficult to do, but we truthfully had no problem!

Our first tent: Hofbrau Festhalle.

It did NOT disappoint. We enjoyed our beer and enjoyed some excellent people watching! It is standard to stand up in your seat and chug your (1LITER) beer. But if you suck at it, people throw food at you. We had front row seats for a chicken wing to the head.

First beer!

Next we went to Hacker.

The slogan is integral to the Hacker-Festzelt philosophy: when surrounded by clouds and stars with a cold Maß (liter of beer) in the hand, you may feel as though you are truly in a "Bavarian Heaven". - A quote from the Oktoberfest website.

This is the tent I referred to above as Heaven. :)
We enjoyed a few beers here and again, enjoyed the company!
It was here that I found my favorite Oktoberfest Goer. He just hung out and drank his beer. :)
Beers for all!

The three of us!

Did someone say prezel!

Blake and Aaron with the prezel!

At this point of the day, people who had reserved tables were arriving so we had to quickly finish our beers and find a new home.
It wasn't quite time for our reservation so we wandered to a new tent.

We found a table of very friendly, very drunk middle aged Germans. They kindly invited us to sit.  This was the Augustiner-Festhalle, known to be the friendliest tent!
I don't really know how many beers we had at this point. But I did get a giant pickle.

The last picture of the night :) in our prime reserved seats. I don't have a picture of the tent, but I do remember the music being pretty good.
We had so much fun!

Oktoberfest was everything I could've hoped for and so much more.
And now since we have these fancy outfits we probably will throw an Oktoberfest party each year - even if we're the only ones dressed up!

Day 13-17

Palma de Mallorca, Spain

What is the best way to cure an Oktoberfest hangover? 5 days at an all-inclusive in Spain of course!

Wednesday morning we left our car at the Munich airport and boarded a plane to sunshine ville. We went to an all-inclusive for our 1 year anniversary, so we thought we should do it again for 2 years. This was the best way to end 12 straight days of traveling.

We plopped our butts in beach chairs and sunbathed for 3 days straight. We read, we relaxed, we slept in, we ate well and we drank well. We also only took two pictures. #Whoops I guess I was a little too relaxed.

This was our beach! It was lovely. We stayed in the Cala d'Or area of the island.

That wraps up our first true German Holiday. Hope you enjoy. :)

Have a great weekend!
