Stockholm Day 2

Day 2 in Stockholm left us with some choices! One of them was the zoo, so naturally I stopped listening to the other choices :). I am a sucker for all things ZOO related. #ILoveZoos

Sunday we set out for Skansen. Skansen is an open air museum and zoo featuring lovely views of Stockholm and is home to wild Nordic animals. The open air museum features a look into the different ways of life in Sweden before the industrial era. It sits on a larger island.

***Fun Fact*** Blake informed me that Stockholm is an Archipelago - an island group or chain of islands. :) (I did not know what an Archipelago was.)

Skansen is family friendly, interactive and quite expansive!

An old house with a traditional grass roof.

We learned this is a way to stack wood so it stays dry.

It was a hot, beautiful day so I was delighted to see this drinking post. Mmm, we enjoyed the water!

Loved this picnic table.

Piglets! :) So cute. I think I stared at them for 10 minutes.

Bison.

We also saw a Moose, baby brown bears, otters, red fox, reindeer, and wolves. But no pictures of them. I am not an animal photographer for a reason folks! ;)

Skansen offered some breathtaking views.

If you look really closely, you will see a beautiful owl!

More views.

We enjoyed a lovely BBQ lunch at Skansen. It was incredibly busy, so we ended up sharing our table with another family. IT just so happened that this family is from Ohio, near the same town where my moms side of the family is from! They also have family that lives in Michigan. They were visiting Stockholm as a last trip before they head back to the States. They have been living in Geneva, Switzerland for the last 4 years. It was so fun to talk to them, and hear their story. Such a small world!

Walking to get a coffee before heading to the airport! We are standing in front of the Nordic Museum or the Nordiska Museet. Yep that is me in the white shirt and shorts, babbling on about lord knows what.

Our view while we enjoyed our coffee and beers.

The big blue gate.

We set off for Arlanda airport to catch our 6pm flight home. We grabbed a bite to eat at an Irish pub, and it was delicious. I actually forgot it was an airport restaurant.

Blake and I each bought a book from the bookstore for the plane ride home.

:)

Come back next Monday for my August update (which will include the books I read this month) and for posts about two German towns we have visited!

Xoxo

Stockholm Day 1

Today I am sharing Day 1 of our trip to Stockholm!

It was an extra special trip because I have family that lives there! My grandma's sister Jamie lives in the northern part of Sweden, but also has a flat in Stockholm. Technically, she is my great aunt, but I just call her Aunt Jamie.  It worked out that the weekend we were free to fly to Stockholm, she was also free to have visitors!

We flew to Stockholm on Friday evening. Our flight didn't leave until 9pm so we ate dinner at the airport (slim pickins' folks, slim pickin's). We flew from Berlin SXF to Stockholm Arlanda. It was a quick 1hr 20 min flight.

We drove to Berlin, but in the future we hope to take the train to the airport. It all depends when our flight gets in on Sunday. In this case, our flight got in too late on Sunday, which meant we would miss the last train from Berlin to Braunschweig.

Now, let me talk about Berlin SXF airport for a moment... it was not what I expected. At all. It was small, it was poorly laid out, it lacked space for passengers (and there were a lot of passengers), it lacked escalators (no thanks to hauling my carry on up and down the stairs), and finally it lacked eating establishments. But hey, the flight was cheap so! There was one nice thing though - SECURITY! We must've been the only people who only had carry on's and already had our boarding passes. If that is the case then you get to use a separate security section. What a breeze!

Boarding our Norwegian flight!

Ready for take off!

We landed a little after 11pm, my aunt greeted us and drove us to her flat in Stockholm where we were met with snacks. MMM the best cheese I have ever had. Was heavenly.

My aunts flat is in such an awesome location that I am certain Rick Steves would be jealous.

Saturday morning we enjoyed breakfast together before a full day of sight seeing! Since Aunt Jamie lives in Stockholm/Sweden we let her plan the day.

And from up close.

Stockholm City Hall

Beautiful day!

Exploring with Aunt Jamie!

We loved all the streets.

After this we took a little break and enjoyed some ice cream and a waffle. Both delicious. Both consumed too fast for a picture.

Stockholm Cathedral
One of the prettiest churches I have seen!

Stockholm Palace

People beginning to gather around to watch the changing of the guards.

We really enjoyed the architecture that Stockholm had to offer.

A picture of the church where my aunt was married. :)

At this point of the day, we were in the water. In a boat of course :p. We were taking a ferry to the island of Fjaderholmarnas. One thing I did not realize about Stockholm before visiting was that it is made up of a lot of islands!

A picture of the famous Vasa Museum from the boat!

When we arrived to the island (about a 20 minute trip) we walked around and explored for a bit. It was lovely! We sat on some rocks and watched the large boats pass.

We sat down for lunch at a lovely restaurant that was right on the water. The meal was delicious, and the company even better!

 Views from the table.

Blake exploring after lunch.

After we ate, we took the ferry back to the main area of Stockholm and went for a stroll to the island of Skeppsholmen. The weather had took a turn for the worst at this point, but we embraced!

Views from the island.

As we finished our stroll we stumbled upon this ship :) a ship that I only hope is seeing as much of the world as I am. #WanderlustUnite!

I'M BACK!!! // Michigan

HELLO!
I have missed you all, and I hope you have missed me too!

But, have no fear. The wait is over. I am back!

Thank you for being patient with me while the blog took a hiatus. I had an enjoyable trip to Michigan, despite the circumstances. Funerals have a way of bringing people together that haven't been together in a really long time. So I am choosing to focus on that happy aspect. :)

So aside from the sad part. Michigan was rather enjoyable. I saw lots of family and friends. I ate all the foods I missed (Tacos, Nachos, Salsa, MORE tacos... you get the idea), I spoke a lot of English, and I went to Meijer about 10 times.

Now, back to Blog Business. :)

I am going to share our trip to Stockholm tomorrow! But for today I will share a few photos from the trip home to Michigan!

***Side note*** I am still incredibly jet lagged. My sleep schedule is whacky and therefore my life has been whacky.

First order of business was to get a hair cut. I really enjoyed explaining what I wanted done in English! I was in the Michigan humidity for all of 24 hours when I decided that the normal trim was out and a hair chop off session was in.

So yep, thats what I did! And let's be honest, the only true way to show off new hair is a selfie!

The majority of my first week back was spent in preparation of the funeral on Friday.

It was a nice service honoring my dad. His ashes were buried with his mom.

The weekend was spent dog sitting my dog niece and dog nephew!

Viola was happy to see me! :)

Good morning Aunt Riley, please feed me and let me outside! Such sweet dogs.

I got to watch my little brother play baseball!

Bloody Mary's and canoeing with my aunts, cousins and mom!

Went hiking with my dear friend Jennie!

Enjoyed Michigan beer. On more than one occasion.

I also got to enjoy time with other friends and my grandparents.

Although the reason for the trip home was a sad one, I made the best out of it!

Join me tomorrow for a post about Stockholm!
