Stockholm Day 1

Today I am sharing Day 1 of our trip to Stockholm!

It was an extra special trip because I have family that lives there! My grandma's sister Jamie lives in the northern part of Sweden, but also has a flat in Stockholm. Technically, she is my great aunt, but I just call her Aunt Jamie.  It worked out that the weekend we were free to fly to Stockholm, she was also free to have visitors!

We flew to Stockholm on Friday evening. Our flight didn't leave until 9pm so we ate dinner at the airport (slim pickins' folks, slim pickin's). We flew from Berlin SXF to Stockholm Arlanda. It was a quick 1hr 20 min flight.

We drove to Berlin, but in the future we hope to take the train to the airport. It all depends when our flight gets in on Sunday. In this case, our flight got in too late on Sunday, which meant we would miss the last train from Berlin to Braunschweig.

Now, let me talk about Berlin SXF airport for a moment... it was not what I expected. At all. It was small, it was poorly laid out, it lacked space for passengers (and there were a lot of passengers), it lacked escalators (no thanks to hauling my carry on up and down the stairs), and finally it lacked eating establishments. But hey, the flight was cheap so! There was one nice thing though - SECURITY! We must've been the only people who only had carry on's and already had our boarding passes. If that is the case then you get to use a separate security section. What a breeze!

Boarding our Norwegian flight!

Ready for take off!

We landed a little after 11pm, my aunt greeted us and drove us to her flat in Stockholm where we were met with snacks. MMM the best cheese I have ever had. Was heavenly.

My aunts flat is in such an awesome location that I am certain Rick Steves would be jealous.

Saturday morning we enjoyed breakfast together before a full day of sight seeing! Since Aunt Jamie lives in Stockholm/Sweden we let her plan the day.

And from up close.

Stockholm City Hall

Beautiful day!

Exploring with Aunt Jamie!

We loved all the streets.

After this we took a little break and enjoyed some ice cream and a waffle. Both delicious. Both consumed too fast for a picture.

Stockholm Cathedral
One of the prettiest churches I have seen!

Stockholm Palace

Palace from a different angle.

People beginning to gather around to watch the changing of the guards.

We really enjoyed the architecture that Stockholm had to offer.

A picture of the church where my aunt was married. :)

At this point of the day, we were in the water. In a boat of course :p. We were taking a ferry to the island of Fjaderholmarnas. One thing I did not realize about Stockholm before visiting was that it is made up of a lot of islands!

A picture of the famous Vasa Museum from the boat!

When we arrived to the island (about a 20 minute trip) we walked around and explored for a bit. It was lovely! We sat on some rocks and watched the large boats pass.

We sat down for lunch at a lovely restaurant that was right on the water. The meal was delicious, and the company even better!

 Views from the table.

Blake exploring after lunch.

After we ate, we took the ferry back to the main area of Stockholm and went for a stroll to the island of Skeppsholmen. The weather had took a turn for the worst at this point, but we embraced!

Views from the island.

As we finished our stroll we stumbled upon this ship :) a ship that I only hope is seeing as much of the world as I am. #WanderlustUnite!
